-We provide e-mail accounts free of charge. It is a service provided
through the shear tenacity of our volunteers by the owbn membership fees.
We have instituted quotas on mailboxes to maintain a fair level of
service to all users.
-If you are having issues logging on, or are having messages being
refused, you may have exceeded your disk Quota. To check your quota,
log onto the web mail and select options. Then select quota.
OWBN users are allowed a 10 MB mail box.
-The OWBN server supports SSL security. To take best advantage of it
please download and install the certificate here. CERTIFICATE
-Please delete anything you no longer need, and if you are going to
need something on a long-term basis, it may be a good idea to save
it on a local computer.
-Although data on the mail server is backed up, it is strongly encoraged
that users keep copies of thier most critical data some other location.
Restoration of data from backup is only possible by replacing a users entire
mail box based on the previous nights backup.
-All email sent through owbn.org is scanned for viruses automatically. Infected
mail is automatically placed in a safe location away from the user.
-The owbn server has a very powerful and effective spam filter system installed.
By default user setup is maintained on a global setting. These settings are
less agressive than what most users may desire. Should a user wish to have personal
account filter access please e-mail the hostmaster and an account shall be created.
-Users are encouraged to take advantage of this
system. By using this system members train the system what they consider
"spam" or "ham." This particular system has show to be the best method
to date in combating spam. After users have trained the system they can
expect better than 99% accuracy in removing and catching spam. The system
itself has excellent documentation within. To have the system filter spam a user
must log on and configure the settings. One of th emost important settings
is the spam value. It establishes the value in which spam is filtered.
A good starting value is 4.00. Watch your account closely. Over a few days
a user will notice a better value and can fine tune the system accordingly.
Any other questions should be directed to the Hostmaster below.
-The server has Sieve mail filtering. This means that users can setup server side filters to have
messages sorted based on various criteria. It can be auto moved into special folders
(i.e. one for each mailing list) forwarded, auto deleted, or marked for important reading. To configure
log on through the web sq interface and click on filters. Each step is documented on the page. The filters
apply to users who user imap and pop3 also. It will auto sort on the server before downloading to the client.
A very useful too!
Anyone caught using email accounts for business soliciation
or spam mailing will be banned from the system.
-Accounts that have been inactive for more than 45 days will be deleted and all
mail shall be removed. If you expect to be away for extended periods please contact
